New hardware time bitches. Prepare to fork out some cash to buy yourself a new rig for Christmas.
A lot of the things in this build are brand new and haven't been reviewed thoroughly yet, but this is what I would build if I were going to do it right now. All of this will probably run you about $2,000. You may have to hunt around for the LGA1366 Bracket until things cool down a bit...here is an alternate link for them. |

Obviously I lied; this section will not be updated very often. If you need help, and it has been a while since this was updated, send me a pm or talk to me on ventrilo. The rules this time are the same, I'm making a budget gaming rig and shooting for $1500. These are the parts I would use if I were building and buying today, but keep in mind; hardware can change frequently.
The final price at the time of this posting with instant discounts and shipping included was about $1,520.65, with a $20 mail-in rebate for the power supply. This is meant to be a rough guideline. If you have less money, get a lesser video card. If you have more money, get a sound card (preferrably one of the Asus cards that steals Creative's liscenced technology). I had to find the heatsink and fan at a different store because newegg stopped carrying the best brand there is for some reason. The final price after the mail in rebates was $1500.65, if you begrudge me the $0.65 I suggest you don't complain and/or swallow a knife. |

In case you hadn't heard, the 2nd thumb button is back on logitech's gaming mouse. 1000 USB reports per second, 2000 dpi, and 7 buttons. This is an excellent mouse with few (if any) challengers in its price range.

Chimei 22" Widescreen $239.99 with free shipping and a $30.00 mail in rebate
Looking for a last minute gift? You can't go wrong with an 83% five star rating, and a budget price for a 22" Widescreen. Between the 800:1 contrast ratio, and the 5ms response time, this is a hell of a deal. The first time you see something everyone else can't because you're using a wide screen you'll never want to go back to a normal monitor.

EVGA 8800GT 512mb Superclocked, $279.99 + $6.33 3 day shipping
This new release from Nvidia will blow away anything in remotely the same price range, and give the biggest and best a run for their money as well. A video card like this can take a system with a mid level processor/amount of ram, and make it run games like the best of them. Act now before AMD/ATI throws in the towel and Nvidia and Intel jack up their prices!
