Obviously I lied; this section will not be updated very often. If you need help, and it has been a while since this was updated, send me a pm or talk to me on ventrilo. The rules this time are the same, I'm making a budget gaming rig and shooting for $1500. These are the parts I would use if I were building and buying today, but keep in mind; hardware can change frequently.

 Mid-Range Budget Build
Motherboard ASUS P5Q Pro
Processor (CPU) Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Wolfdale 3.0GHz
CPU Heatsink THERMALRIGHT ULTIMA-90
CPU Heatsink Fan Panaflo 92MM
CPU Thermal Paste Arctic Silver Ceramique
Ram G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500)
Hard Drives Western Digital Caviar 320GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s
Western Digital Raptor 74GB 10000 RPM
DVD/CD Drive LITE-ON Black dvd/cd burner
Video Card EVGA GeForce GTX 260
Power Supply (PSU) OCZ EliteXStream 800w
Case LIAN LI PC-A17B Black Aluminum

The final price at the time of this posting with instant discounts and shipping included was about $1,520.65, with a $20 mail-in rebate for the power supply. This is meant to be a rough guideline. If you have less money, get a lesser video card. If you have more money, get a sound card (preferrably one of the Asus cards that steals Creative's liscenced technology). I had to find the heatsink and fan at a different store because newegg stopped carrying the best brand there is for some reason. The final price after the mail in rebates was $1500.65, if you begrudge me the $0.65 I suggest you don't complain and/or swallow a knife.
