New Game Rig

After converting my old gaming rig into a 3TB media server...I need to build a new one.

Here's what i'm looking at:

Intel Core i5 750

Radeon 5830

Motherboard and RAM

And finally Power Supply

Case is currently undecided (recommendations?). Optical drive I have spares at home, and HD will probably be an existing sata drive (I do have a 150GB raptor sitting around...maybe that one?).

I'm trying to build a good system on a budget, hopefully less than 1k. I'm basically targeting Starcraft II, but other games I'm interested in are TF2, Half Life 2, WoW, and hopefully Diablo III in the future.

Possible upgrades i'm looking at are 5850 for graphics, and possibly a move to a small SSD drive. It only has to fit games on it, movies and music will all be on my other computer. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

Another purchase I'm looking at is a new monitor. I already have two samsung 20" monitors, but those are both hooked up to my other computer that I use for media and photo stuff. In the past I had just swapped cables...but that just sucks. I'm thinking I'll just get a 3rd monitor for games and find another place for this box altogether.

Any monitor suggestions would be great.

Best bang for the buck video card right now is the 5850. I would def try to find the cash in the build to get it.

PSU I recommend Corsair.
Case I recommend Cooler Master. (I need to know what you are willing to spend)

As for the monitors, you might want to consider a KVM switch. I also need a price range on the monitor, but a decent gaming 24" can be had for 200-300ish.

Case I think i'd like to cap around 100~ or so. The less I spend on that and PSU, the more I can put towards a 5850.

I've looked at KVM's before but the only one I found was a VGA one and it was basically crap. I suppose a good DVI one would probably be cheaper than a new monitor. I'll have to think about that some more. I'd go 200-300 on a good monitor for sure though, since I'll have that for a pretty long time.

Upon further reflection, the price difference from the 5830 to the 5850 isn't that much for a 20%+ performance boost. Pretty sure I'll end up going that route for graphics.

As with Sam's computer from a while back, and every computer i've put together for the last couple of years, you'll do much better getting the chip from microcenter if possible.

Here's a i7 930 for $200

or if you're set on the 1156 chipset, Core i5 655K Unlocked 3.2GHz LGA 1156 Boxed Processor also $200

I ended up going i7 960 and 5870 and I'm so glad I did. The thing rocks and should last a good long time.
