Maybe it's just the way he's presenting it, but it doesn't seem like this will work terribly well on anything that isn't a touchscreen.

I played with a developer preview awhile back, and I agree with Callinon - it doesn't seem to be very intuitive without a touchscreen.

We had microsoft come demo their "metro" ui (what an awful name btw). You're right, it's completely shitty for non touch screens.

This exactly.
Through both of those videos and reading the article I'm picturing explaining this ... thing ... to my mother. And the picture always ends badly.
The really grating part of this is that someone (probably more than one) got paid actual money to design and develop this thing. And then someone ELSE looked at it and said "Yes! This! This is what the world needs! This is the future of personal computing! This, right here!"
The real killer is that this Metro UI (god damn that name sucks) really does look like it would work well on a tablet. But not on a PC. At some point someone has to recognize that PCs and tablets are not used for the same things. Also that some of us still use a mouse and keyboard to use a PC.
