I will be updating the vBulletin forums this upcoming weekend on January 31, or February 1st. Downtime will probably be a few hours.

Forum Update Completed with no problems. Feel free to play with the boat load of new features with the new version of vBulletin (there's a lot of them!).

You may notice several changes: 1.) We now have Google Ad's on the forums, this is to support the cost of maintaining the web site, and Ventrilo server (Cost of maintaining all of our e-infrastructure is roughly $35 a month). 2.) We're using the default style. That's so that the Ad's will display, as our old style does not work well with 3.8. I promise to get this changed soonish, but I suggest that you kids bug Satake and Bard if you want it changed sooner.

The forums now support Social Bookmarking, so you can write some really sweet post and then Digg it to generate a shit ton of traffic and bring the server down to it's knees. There is now an option to create Social Groups amongst yourselves. I've had some ideas for this feature, but I'm going to leave it up to you guys to do with as you please for now.

Every member now gets their own Photo Album, which means we can finally get rid of that really shitty Album we were using before. When I get bored and have more free time I'll transfer all the pictures over to the forums, but for now if you need a host for your images- don't use imageshack, use the forum.

If there are any problems, please let me know. I have a hunch that possibly everyone's signature pictures and forum avatars may have been wiped out in the update, but I'm not entirely sure. So if it's missing, let me know before you re-upload it so I can transfer the files over.

It wasn't a problem on your end. Satake had edited the smilies and pointed them towards our old style. I just fixed it.

Interesting, thanks. I still don't see smiles on some forums but as long as I can see them here all is well.

Oh, the old theme compatible with the new vbulletin? Yellow names were cool on a black/grey background but on this lightbluish it gives me a headache.

Yeah, I'm looking for a darker theme now. I found one I like, it's just that it has pictures of a bunch of naked men in the background (wrestling style), which I know gives you orgasms, but it's not something I'm into.

Ignoring my beloved naked men, so far this is the only one I've found appealing:

Replacing the banner of course and possibly the background?

I'm all for not paying for shitty themes, but I have $7.16 in my bank account and I can split the price with you!

Looks good, and it's only $2! If anyone else has a suggestion, do share.

These are $30:

http://www.extremepi...ion_details.php

http://www.extremepi...ack_details.php

http://www.extremepi...n_z_details.php

http://www.extremepi...nce_details.php

One or two of those is slightly more appealing than the $2 one but not so much that it makes the extra cost seem worthwhile.

I'll look into it. I'm not opposed to dropping $30 on a good theme. Extreme Pixels is where our last theme came from. He does good work, just charges an arm and a leg for it. :p

Is there a way to get the a thread to register as "read" without having to go back to the subforum that the thread is in directly after reading the new post(s).

For example I go into "WoW General Chat" and click on a thread; after I'm done reading the posts I click on "Nova" from the "Nova > World of WarCraft > WoW General Chat" thing at the top but it doesn't register the thread as read. I have to click to go back to WoW General from the thread I'm reading for it to clear the new post indicators.

Had this issue prior to the vbulletin update too but I never bothered to ask about it.

Pretty sure there is a polling interval to limit database calls. I know there is a setting for this and I have it set to cookie based to reduce database thrashing.

Ok thanks. I'll try to set some sort of exception for cookies for this site and see if it changes anything.

It's a forum setting. I'll change it later.

I really like Ambience, Tren_z and Titanium

I vote for a theme that is close to the color scheme for the xp theme royale noir.

tren_z is winnar

Edited by Girryn, 26 January 2009 - 09:20 AM.
my spelling is not winnar
